What do we study in TAG?
TAG units are based on the Fulton County Learning Objectives: Advanced Research, Creative Thinking/Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking, and Advanced Communication Skills. Each of our three units lasts approximately ten weeks. The units are designed by Fulton County TAG teachers to extend the Science and Social Studies curriculum. We have a lot of exciting projects and lessons planned! To start the new year, we will be teaching the following units: 5th Grade: Amusement Parks 4th Grade: Space Exploration 3rd Grade: What's the Matter in the Kitchen? 1st &2nd Grade: Pilgrims' Challenge Schedule Each day, students should bring their pencil and snack, and lunch and coat if needed. Students should NOT bring their backpacks or agendas to TAG unless absolutely necessary. First & Second Grade: Mondays with Mrs. Kutz Third Grade: Fridays with Mrs. Kutz Fourth Grade: Tuesdays and Thursdays with Ms. Kutz Fifth Grade: Wednesdays with Mrs. Kutz or Mrs. Fragale All TAG students will attend 60 minutes of math instruction with their regular math teachers on TAG days. All students will have regularly scheduled lunch, recess and specials with their homerooms. What do I need for TAG? We request that students bring a plain 2 pocket folder. This will stay in the TAG room as a way to organize our work. We also encourage students to bring a filled water bottle to class each day. The brain needs water to run smoothly! (Students do NOT need a notebook.) |
How are TAG students assessed?
TAG students will receive Progress Skills Checklists from their TAG teacher(s) three times a year. They will be sent home at the completion of each unit. Students do not receive grades in TAG, but are assessed with S (Successful), P (Progressing), or D (Developing) for their progress on the TAG Standards. They also receive either a Y (Yes) or N (Needs Improvement) in areas of Personal Development. Assessments are based on: teacher observation of students’ class participation, students’ writings, teacher observation of students’ contribution to team activities, evaluated project and problem based learning opportunities, as well as other papers/projects in work folders. Parent conferences will be held at the end of the year to confirm continued placement in the program. Please check with your child each TAG day to see our daily agenda and hear about the exciting things we learned! Discussing the agenda is the fastest way for you to evaluate your child’s understanding of the concepts covered in class that day. The Georgia Department of Education now requires that all districts report elementary gifted resource course and grade data on the final semester reports cards and transcripts. To complete this requirement, Fulton County has included the following updates to all Gifted Resource classes to be reflected on the current and future semester report cards: CR – indicates the student has met the minimum requirements and course expectations for the gifted resource class. NC – indicates the student is not meeting the minimum requirements and course expectations for the gifted resource class. Students who receive this mark will be placed on probationary status in the TAG program. The TAG teacher will communicate with the parents regarding the expectations and additional supports needed for success in the TAG classroom. |
