                          Ocee Elementary TAG
What do we study in TAG?
TAG units are based on the Fulton County Learning Objectives:  Advanced Research, Creative Thinking/Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking, and Advanced Communication Skills.  Each of our three units lasts approximately ten weeks.  The units are designed by Fulton County TAG teachers to extend the science and social studies curriculum and follow the GPS objectives of the regular education curriculum.  We have a lot of exciting projects and lessons planned!  Our tentative units for the year are:
5th Grade:  Oceanography, 20th Century Innovators, Stock Market
4th Grade:  Space Exploration, Native Americans, Pirates during American Revolution
                          3rd Grade:  Pioneers, Inventions, Flight
2nd Grade:  Pilgrims, Kitchen Chemistry, Endangered Animals
1st Grade:  Rainforest, Around the World, Our Town

                          Schedule
Students will be picked up from their regular education classrooms following Team Time (8:15). Each day, students should bring their pencil, lunch, snack, and coat if needed.  Students should NOT bring their backpacks or agendas to TAG unless absolutely necessary.  Students will attend specials with their homeroom, but will eat lunch in the cafeteria with their TAG class at 12:05, as well as have recess with their TAG class.  Students will return to their homerooms at 2:10.  Third, fourth and fifth grade TAG students will attend 30 minutes of math instruction with their regular math teachers on TAG days.
As in the past, students will switch TAG teachers after the first semester.

                          How are TAG students assessed?
TAG students will receive Progress Skills Checklists from their TAG teacher(s) three times a year.  They will be sent home at the completion of each unit (November, February, May).  Students do not receive grades in TAG, but are assessed with S(satisfactory), N(needs improvement), or NE (not evaluated) for their progress on the Learning Objectives.  In addition, parents will receive a mid-unit rubric.  Assessments are based on teacher observation of students’ class participation, students’ writings in Learner’s Log, teacher observation of students’ contribution to team activities, and evaluated papers/projects in work folders.  Parent conferences will be held at the end of the year to confirm continued placement in the program.
Please check with your child each TAG day to see our daily agenda and hear about the exciting things we learned!  Discussing the agenda is the fastest way for you to evaluate your child’s understanding of the concepts covered in class that day.
